City Claims Fire Hazard at Charity
The city is threatening to shut down a charity house it claims puts people in danger--- at issue - fire hazards. The Giving Tree expects to have about 30 people here overnight, staying out of the heat...But the City of Tucson wants to clear out them out - to keep them safe. The Giving Tree works to help homeless families...but a notice from the city makes the charity worry some of the families it helps will be out on the streets all over again. The permit for the Giving Tree's center near 22nd and Swan says it's a church.. The city tells us it's not safe for people to stay overnight. The Giving Tree's in Councilmember Nina Trasoff's Ward. She says she sympathizes with anyone trying to help the homeless..."But you can't do that at the expense of the health and safety of the people you're trying to help."
The Giving Tree will not shut down while the case is resolved.... It has about two weeks before the first hearing on it's appeal.
As many of you read this article in the paper or saw it on the news yesterday, I hope it did something to you. I hope you came to the realization that Libby Wright will do everything within her power to help the homeless, the sick, the widows, the brokenhearted, and the orphans. She spends every waking moment with someone in need. She is doing what God has called her to do and what God has called you to do if you claim to be a believer in Jesus. Jesus said in Matthew 25:43-45 "I was a stranger, and you did not invite Me in; naked, and you did not clothe Me; sick, and in prison, and you did not visit Me. Then they themselves also will answer, Lord, when did we see You hungry, or thirsty, or a stranger, or naked, or sick, or in prison, and did not take care of You? Then He will answer them, Truly I say to you, to the extent that you did not do it to one of the least of these, you did not do it to Me."
